Kumana National Park
previous post
In 1938 the Kumana Bird Sanctuary was founded within the national park, as over 255 bird species have been recorded in the park, which is also an important bird resting and breeding ground. Between April and July, tens of thousands of birds migrate to the Kumana swamp area, including rare species such as the black-necked stork and the Eurasian spoonbill.
The park is also a wonderful place to see elephants and other wildlife. The most important feature is ‘Kumana Villu’ which is a 200-hectare mangrove swamp, a major attraction for birds such as storks, pelicans, white ibis, herons, spoonbills and egrets
