WEATHER

Except for the hill towns, the weather is very hot and incredibly humid everywhere. Surprisingly, it doesn’t get much better in the evening.

Always apply sunscreen and wear sunglasses and a hat when travelling in direct sunlight.

Carry an umbrella  for sudden and, inevitable, downpours.

Mobitel SIM card can be purchased in the airport before the immigration counters. So, you can buy even if you are in a transit at the airport.

Uber and “pick me” provide taxi services for your daily transport needs.

Petrol stations are run by CEPETCO and LANKA IOC

Be extra careful when crossing roads even if you are on a zebra crossing.

Sanitation

Waste Disposal: It is very rare even in the capital to find garbage disposal bins. Even in public places. Therefore, please carry extra bags to collect the garbage to dispose it later.

Toilets: They are wet type and many places you will not find toilet paper and soap. It is advisable to carry toilet paper and handwash. Some public toilets charge per use.

other

Monkeys: be careful when monkeys are around, they are ready to grab food, flowers etc from your hands and bags.
